Encore Melaka Theatre is an award-winning architectural venue where it continuously develops to be a vibrant neighborhood performing arts theatre, providing a venue that continues to inspire, and revitalize your life with the best experiences.

The building was designed with modernist architectural elements and offers a capacity 1800 seating and well-equipped basic lighting and sound equipment including a few multi-functional halls. KAMPUNG MORTEN

Kampung Morten is located at the center of the Historic City of Melaka (Kampung Morten, 2012). The Melaka River surrounds this small village and those who cruises the Melaka river on the “Melaka River Cruise” will not miss this village.

Kampung Morten is regarded as a living museum as most of its residents are still practicing the traditional Malay lifestyle.

The village also exhibits 200 Melaka traditional houses with their unique roof, staircase, interior decoration and landscape. It feels like going back to the era of the Melaka Sultanate.

This village is named after J.F. Morten, a British Commissioner of Land in the 1920s. He played a role in setting up this village, which was originally just a swamp

A’ Famosa Fort

A’Famosa is more than just quick photo stop opportunity for tourists. Built in 1511, the settlement used to sprawl across a whole hillside but now only a lone gate (Porta de Santiago) remains.

One of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia; it is set beside the Istana ke Sultanan on Jalan Kota. A’Famosa is one of the Malacca’s best known sightseeing spot.

Originally constructed by Alfonso de Albuquerque (who led the Portuguese invasion on the Malacca Sultanate), the remains of the fort is now a crumbling whitewashed gatehouse and is located downhill from St. Paul’s Church.

St Paul Church

The ruins of St. Paul’s Church are at the summit of St. Paul’s Hill. Built on the site of the last Malaccan sultan’s istana (palace), it was constructed by Portuguese fidalgo (nobleman) captain, Duarte Coelho, in gratitude to the Virgin Mary for saving his life during a storm at sea.

Roofless and covered in ferns, it was originally called the Nossa Senhora da Annunciada (Our Lady of the Annunciation).

Though it has been in ruins for more than 150 years, it is a beautiful, breezy sanctuary (reached after a steep flight of stairs) set near the remains of A’ Famosa fort.

Jonker Street

Jonker Street – the centre street of Chinatown – was once renowned for its antique shops. However over the years it has turned to clothing and crafts outlets as well as restaurants.

The best part of Jonker Street is the night market on Fridays and Saturdays that sells everything from tasty treats to cheap keepsakes.

Christ Church

Christ Church  built by the Dutch when they took possession of Malacca from the Portuguese, it’s one of Malacca’s most defining structures.

Situated along Jalan Gereja (also known as Church Street) it is an instantly recognizable brick-red building with a huge white cross at the top. Sitting opposite the Stadhuys, Christ Church was built in 1753 to celebrate a century of Dutch occupation.

The interior of the cathedral has 200 year-old handmade pews, decorative fanlights and plaques that honour Dutch soldiers and locals.

The Stadthuys

The Stadthuys is believed to be the oldest-surviving Dutch building in the East. Part of Malacca town square’s prominent Dutch colonial architecture it is a massive bright terracotta-red riverfront building that was once the official residence of Dutch governors and officers.

Built between 1641 and 1660 on the ruins of a Portuguese fort, The Stadthuys of Malacca was the focus point of several successive governments (Dutch, Portuguese, British etc.) for over 300 years, from its completion until 1980. In 1982, Stadthuys was converted into a museum. The Stadthuys displays typical features of Dutch colonial architecture with massive walls, louvred windows and chunky doors with wrought-iron hinges.

Melaka Sultanate Palace

Melaka Sultanate Palace is a wooden replica of Sultan Mansur Shah’s 15th-century palace. Set at the base of St. Paul’s Hill it was painstakingly constructed in 1985 using traditional construction techniques and materials, based on accounts in the 16th century, Sejarah Melayu (Malay Annals) text.

According to the annals, Sultan Mansur Shah’s seven-tiered palace was built entirely without nails and supported with carved, wooden pillars and featured a copper and zinc roof. The most elaborate royal palace ever constructed in the world in 1459. According to the annals it was destroyed the year after the sultan ascended the throne when it was struck by lightning.

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple

This site is dedicated to the vision of Cheng Hoon Teng’s founders and the determination of its devotees to preserve their unique bastion of culture and heritage.

Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum

The Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum Melaka is located at Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock and Heern Street which is of 10.66km from Zoo Melaka. The museum is located parallel to Jonker Street, Malacca, is just 0.22km away from the renowned Jonker Walk. Across the street, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock or better known as the Millionaire’s Row is near to Cheng Ho’s Cultural Museum that takes about 0.26km away. The central location of the heritage museum is near to Kampung Hulu’s Mosque and St. Paul Hill (A’Famosa).

Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum of Malacca is located just ahead of the Stadthuys. It is exactly opposite of the Medan Samudera which is a handicraft and local produce building. The best way to get to the Maritime Museum from the Stadthuys is by walking as you can appreciate better the museums, galleries, mosques, churches and other historical fort around Banda Hilir.

Kampung Kling Mosque

The mosque is one of the traditional mosques in Malacca, which still retains its original design. The architectural design of the mosque is a cross between Sumatran, Chinese, Hindu, and the Malacca Malay.  The minaret, ablution pool and entrance arch were built at the same time with the main building. The kampung kling mosque is named based on the place where Indian traders dwell in that place called Kampung Kling.

Melaka Straits Mosque

Standing on a man-made island named Pulau Melaka, above the waters of the Straits of Malacca, Masjid Selat Melaka really looks like it’s floating when the tide is high. The mosque was built between 2003 and 2006 and officiated in November 2006 by Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Ibni Al-Marhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, the country’s Yang Di-Pertuan Agong at that time. Its design idea came from the state’s former Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Mohd. Ali Rustam, who was inspired by a floating mosque he had seen during his trip to Jeddah.

The mosque’s most prominent feature is its 30-metre-high minaret which also functions as a lighthouse, acting as a guide for boats, ships and aircrafts. A massive golden dome with blue trims which is visible from a distance sits above its main prayer hall. The building incorporates Middle Eastern architectural style peppered with Malay decorative elements such as the use of bamboo as part of its structure and a beautifully-carved pulpit made out of teak wood. The mosque is quite a spectacular sight at night when the whole building lights up.

Masjid Selat Melaka is equipped with various facilities which include a multipurpose hall, a library and a learning centre.

The Shore Oceanarium

The Shore Oceanarium describes itself as the ‘new premier tourist attraction in Melaka’. It is a fun and educational place to bring the kids and enjoyable for adults too.

Being brand new (opened in 2015) it looks clean and fresh and contains some of the latest in aquarium technology such as 3D movies and information boards (3D glasses are provided with a combo ticket).

Visitors are encouraged to find answers to a quiz form using the information boards provided as you walk around the oceanarium. A completed form with the correct answers can be redeemed for a souvenir at the gift shop.

Portuguese Square

Portuguese Square Malacca is situated at the south of the district, Dalbuquerque road. Located near to St. JohnFortwhich is in the distant of 0.85km, the square is deemed to be easily accessible by the local and international tourists all these years. Cheng Ho Culture Museum and St. Paul’s Hill (A’Famosa) is just few kilometers away from the square.The visible sight of Portuguese Square Malacca could be clearly seen from St. Paul’s Hill (A’Famosa).

Zoo Melaka

ZOO MELAKA, ESTABLISHED SINCE 1963 UNDER THE CARE OF MELAKA STATE GOVERNMENT HAS RECENTLY BEEN PRIVATIZED IN THE EARLY 2013 UNDER THE NEW NAME OF MELAKA ZOO AND NIGHT SAFARI.

This 54 acres second largest zoo in Malaysia under the new Majlis Perbandaran Hang Tuah Jaya will see a transformation of the zoo to an open concept in animal exhibit, enhancing wildlife education programme, animal breeding and conservation programme and making the zoo to be a recreational area.

The ever popular Night Safari will be enhanced to give visitors a unique opportunity in observing the behaviour of nocturnal animals in their natural habitats.

At Melaka Zoo & Night Safari, it is not just about a walk through our animals but a whole new wildlife discovery with our various programs suitable from pre-schoolers to university students and corporate companies.

Muzium Kapal Selam

Kapal Selam FS Ouessant Agosta 70 merupakan kapal selam latihan krew-krew Kelas Perdana Menteri Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM). Perolehan kapal selam FS Ouessant Agosta 70 milik bekas Tentera Laut Perancis. Kapal selam ini telah dibawa pulang ke tanahair oleh Kementerian Pertahanan Malaysia dan diserahkan kepada Kerajaan Negeri Melaka untuk diabadikan sebagai muzium di Kompleks Muzium Maritim, Pantai Berlian, Klebang, Melaka.

Kerja-kerja untuk membawa pulang kapal selam FS Ouessant Agosta 70 ini dari pengkalannya di Brest, Perancis telah dimulakan pada 9 Oktober 2011 dan tiba di perairan Melaka pada 12 November 2011. Fokus utama pameran Muzium Kapal Selam FD Ouessant Agosta 70 ini ialah sejarah kapal selam dan perkembangan terutamanya di negara kita.
